Governor Salutes Hopewell Valley Student for Salute to Service Varsity Hockey Game

by Mary Galioto

Hopewell Valley Central High School’s Varsity ice hockey team will be hosting “Salute to Service” Hockey Game tonight to benefit the Hopewell Valley Veterans Association.

This event was created by Michael Cowhey, a senior defenseman and Alternate Captain for the team. “Since it’s our last year of high school, the Senior Varsity hockey players wanted to do something as a team for the community,” stated Cowhey, “My older brother, also a hockey player, is about to begin military service in the Marines. To honor him and the other servicemen and women of the Hopewell Valley, we came up with this idea.”

Cowhey’s contribution was recognized by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie by letter, saluting Cowhey for “his extraordinary efforts to honor [New Jersey’s brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces].”
